About the Show

10 Original Songs | 85 Minutes | 6 Principal Roles | 2 Acts

Steve Bartlett is a tax attorney who has failed at every country club sport imaginable — golf, tennis, croquet, even shuffleboard. All he wants is a championship blazer and the sense of belonging that comes with it.

When his best friend Les discovers a forgotten trophy case for the long-dormant Country Club Wrestling Association of America, Steve finally sees his chance. But standing in his way is Max — nine-time CCWAA champion, childhood bully, and the mastermind behind a money laundering scheme hidden within the league’s absurd bureaucracy.

With the help of Marine veteran Barb and the eternally optimistic Les, Steve must find the courage to step into the ring, expose the corruption, and prove that sometimes the underdog gets his blazer.

“Equal parts Rocky Horror Picture Show and Caddyshack, with body slams. A feel-good comedy about wrestling, friendship, and the absurd lengths we go to belong.”

— San Tropat

Musical Numbers

Act One

1.

“Outside Looking In”

Steve & Barb

Two outsiders find each other on the club patio — a tax attorney without a blazer and a Marine veteran without her country club thing. The show’s emotional anchor.

2.

“Tag In, Partner”

Les

Les’s irresistible friendship anthem. He’s already booked the flights. He just needs Steve to say yes.

3.

“Banco de Bandito”

Max & Madonna Donna

The villain duet. Max and Madonna Donna reveal their glorious, meticulously constructed scheme — $15 million, one shell corporation, and a country club wrestling association nobody takes seriously.

4.

“He Was My Bully”

Steve

Steve’s raw, heartfelt solo. Twenty years of running from Max surfaces the night before everything comes to a head.

5.

“Rules of the Game”

RICKY Star & Company

RICKY Star welcomes the competitors to the CCWAA with the full weight of sequined ceremony. Every rule read with complete sincerity.

— Intermission —

Act Two

6.

“Country Club Rumble”

Company

The full company opens Wrestle-O-Rama. The arena roars to life. Sequins everywhere.

7.

“It’s a Fraud, It’s a Crime”

Steve, Barb & Les

The three underdogs put it all together. The numbers don’t add up, RICKY’s name is on everything, and they have one match left to stop it.

8.

“I Found My Thing”

Barb

Barb’s fitting-in anthem. After a lifetime of not belonging — not at the club, not after the Corps — she finally knows exactly where she stands.

9.

“All In”

Max

Max’s desperate villain anthem as his empire crumbles around him. No mercy. No retreat. Everything on the line.

10.

“Champions Tonight”

Steve

Steve’s victory anthem and the grand finale. The championship belt. The blazer — dignified in front, enormous sequined wrestling scene on the back. The triumph he’s been waiting his whole life for.

Special Appearances

John Waddy
Dustin Weeks

John Waddy & Dustin Weeks

The Men Who Started It All

Every great story has an origin. Ours begins not on a stage, but in the Men’s Bar at Druid Hills Golf Club, where two grown men — accomplished professionals, respected community members, pillars of the business community — were loudly debating whether one of them could throw the other over a tennis court net.

For $1,000.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Country Club Wrestling: The Musical.

John Waddy has spent three decades as founder and CEO of marketing agencies, helping companies connect strategy, branding, and sales into profitable growth. He is a trusted advisor to entrepreneurs, a Fractional CMO, and a man whose standards, by his own account, define his identity. Apparently those standards include wagering four figures on amateur athletic feats of questionable judgment.

Dustin Weeks is a nationally recognized intellectual property attorney whose practice spans patent prosecution, litigation, and post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He represents everyone from solo inventors to Fortune 500 companies, navigating the most complex corners of IP law with precision and skill. He was also a NCAA Division I scholarship cheerleader at Georgia Tech. Which means, for the record, he probably could have done it.

When your humble playwright overheard this exchange, something clicked. The absurdity. The bravado. The completely serious commitment to a completely ridiculous proposition. That was the spark.

Tonight, John and Dustin appear before the show to reprise their roles as the unwitting founding fathers of Country Club Wrestling. We are forever grateful — and only a little concerned — that they exist.

Gentlemen, this one’s on you.

Special Thanks

To Becky Read —
Every show begins with a single believer. Mine was you.
Before there was a cast, a director, a stage, or a single note of music, there was you — nodding along to a ridiculous idea about country clubs and wrestling, and somehow seeing something real in it. You didn't just believe in this project; you stood by my side and made it possible.

And then, quietly and without asking for any credit at all, you inspired it. The heart of this show — the idea that belonging is earned through authenticity, not appearances — that came from watching you move through the world with grace, generosity, and an uncanny ability to see the best in people. None of this exists without you. Not the music. Not the script. Not the team on that stage. This one's for you, Becky. Every laugh, every cheer, every ridiculous sequin.
With all my love and gratitude, Patrick

To Lindsay Gaddis, Jim Milanowski and the entire Public School family —
By opening the doors of Public School to us — offering a space for auditions and rehearsals with nothing asked in return — Lindsay & Jim gave this show something no budget line could have purchased: a home. And with that home came credibility. The kind that signals to talented, serious artists that something real is being built here. The kind that says this is worth your time. Thank you for the space, the faith, and the extraordinary gift of making this feel legitimate before it fully was.
We hope tonight proves you right.

To Druid Hills Golf Club — Staff, Members & Family —
This story was born here.

Not in a writers' room, not in a theater, but somewhere between the back nine and a bar stool at Druid Hills Golf Club — where an idea too absurd to say out loud somehow found exactly the right audience. That's the thing about this place. It has always had a rare and remarkable gift for making room. Room for big ideas. Room for unlikely people.

Druid Hills is not like other clubs. Anyone who has spent real time here knows it. There is an openness to this place — a genuine warmth and inclusivity that doesn't just tolerate the unconventional, it cultivates it. This is a community where diversity isn't a talking point, it's simply how things are. Where the doors are wide, the conversation is lively, and somehow, improbably, a comedy musical about country club wrestling can go from a half-formed notion to a world premiere in the very ballroom where you're sitting tonight.

To every staff member who set up a room, poured a drink, or smiled at one too many questions setup — thank you. To the members who humored us, encouraged us, and showed up tonight — you are the soul of this show.

We are proud to call Druid Hills home. And we are so glad you let us bring this dream to your stage.
